NY Rave 2007 disc track 3. In the words of Rollo ,"OH MY". I wonder if I can squeeze the Spirit 1's into the flight cases. Do you think anyone would notice ? :thumb:

Hi Guys

What you found comparing it to the Spirit is exactly what I would expect.  Mikes speakers are lined with steel and the version you have has Duelund VSF Copper capacitors which cost about $500 each but are simply the best and are very quick, neutral, accurate and transparent.  This is Mikes full on all out build and is why it is called the Reference - and has a price to match unfortunately.  But being a 5 inch driver will obviously not go as low and of course the Spirit's will easily best it that way.  The ML2's will do that and is in every way a better speaker than the ML1's and I think will give you the best of both worlds.

Don't worry about being thought a shill - I am enthusiastic about both Mike's and Bob Smith's speakers and people have accused me of that before.  Most however understand you are simply an enthusiast talking about well - your enthusiasm.

I was actually down at Mikes yesterday hearing some new secret stuff and we were also discussing the ML2 that is being built for me and I will send out to you guys.  I am very fortunate in I have a lot of superannuation cash right now and so regardless of the price I get the full all out Reference version anyway.  However I think not many are in that fortunate position so I was thinking of getting a slightly lesser ML2 out for you to hear without the hellishly expensive Duelund's.  The version I was thinking of is what is called the Plus R which normally uses Mundorf Silver In Oil as a bypass - with bypassing you get about 90% of the performance of the capacitor you bypass with.  However I am not a big fan of those capacitors and want it bypassed with Duelunds - being of smaller value they are a lot cheaper.  Doing that should get you 90% of the Duelunds performance at a much cheaper cost.  How do you guys feel about that?  If no one wants to buy it I can get it upgraded to the full Duelunds later.

Thanks
Bill

Interesting you bring that up.  I noticed them as well and asked Mike about it - get this - they sound better. I thought no way - but Mike is adamant they do.

Thanks

Well I will stand *expletive*.  I generally trust Mike but thought this was a bit too far out there.

Thanks

One time someone told me some audiophile (no kidding!) found that by placing a coin off the front edge atop the speaker makes a difference.  I haven't experimented yet, as I don't remember what coin is required (Canadian, American....), what size..... Something to experiment with .  Brass screws "resonate" better ???

No disrespect toward anyone intended, just a wisecrack.

Certainly the way the ML1s dealt with acoustic guitar was breathtaking-
No sense of energy storage-then-release from the box at all.
No sense of dynamic or transient compression.

That old "clear window" thing, if the gear driving them is up to it...

Wow.  Loved it.

I also sent some cables over and from the pictures I thought you had them there.  Did you get a chance to try them?  I could post stuff about them but my long winded posts about things I have picked up such as Duelunds etc is probably getting a bit boring. Much better to hear what you think of them.

Thanks
