Got my daughters i-pod fixed yesterday. They ran into problems because the menu button melted a bit when they heated it to get the glass off and had to find a replacement button, so it took overnight. All is well now and my daughters shaking has now subsided. Withdrawal can be painful to experience.

Well done Bob.
Question is.....are you the hero, or did it go unappreciated?   ;)

BobM

If you are a father of a teenage girl I think you pretty much know the answer.

Good goin Bob!

We got all our parts together, I'm gonna try the repair this weekend if there's time.

I learned from etechparts.com (the Danny Richie of the iphone repair world) that there are no genuine Apple parts outside an Apple store. So all parts are gyp. But some are "aftermarket reproductions" (junk) and some are "OEM" parts, which I guess means the OEMs are making their own repair parts to feed the demand and these vary in quality. Some say Retina display, but may still have variances in color temperature. The white glass on replacements is always off color from the original and will not match the home button exactly. So I plan to install the screen that I got from UK with adhesive mask I got from etechparts. I will try not to melt the home button! :) Thanks for the tip.

I replaced the screen today, it came out good. I did forget to put one part back in... oops! It is the clip that hold the front camera in place. But it is also held by adhesive, and seems to work OK.  It was a tedious job, but not difficult. Any hifi modder could do it, with some good small tools. Tiniest phillips screwdriver, small tweezers, heat gun, #11 exacto knife, and a stronger big round edge exacto blade for removing the screen.

The screen quality of the UK part is excellent. It fits perfectly, and the screen looks great.

Good job Rich, glad it worked out.

I consider a job successful when (a) it works, and (b) no need to resort to duct tape. Congrats!
