One Box Cd Player

May I suggest adding a summary of its sound, especially compared to other players you may have owned or heard in  comparison. A mini-review of sorts?

There's a real evolution of this player. First came the CX-7, then they added the "e" which improved the power filtration and incorporated a new FPGA chip. Then came the "MP" filter which adds a reconfigured DAC, upgraded wiring, and new operating-system firmware for faster track access. The primary benefit of the "MP" (minimum phase) was the addition of an "anti-aliasing" filter, similar to that in other new well regarded players, that reduces/eliminates pre-ringing in the signal. Anyway, in direct comparison to several other players, the CX-7e^MP lends itself to a very open yet musical presentation. It has plenty of rythm and slam while still maintaining that all important non-digital sounding musicality. This is a player for those who are driven by the musicality of vinyl, but without any preconceived syrupy notions that some may attribute to vinyl (not true in a good vinyl setup). Soundstaging and imaging are precise, wide and deep. Lots of reviews and praise on-line for this player in several audio rags. It is not necessarily "cheap" but it is far below the price of other players the rags consider "state of the art".

Single ended and balanced outputs. CD playback only (SACD and DVD-A is accommodated by its sister product CX-5e^MP) Only drawback is there is no digital signal input, so it cannot double as a DAC for an external source. That would be nice, indeed.

Hi Bob i will try not to forget ANY cd players that i have owned, the only one that i did not like and it's NORMAL because it was the first one, was the Sony CDP-101 it replaced my analog rig in 1983 Oracle Delphi - Stax UA-9N tonearm - Grace F9R cartridge the cd player was very very bright BUT it was NOISE FREE NO POPCORN after that it was better to much better 4 or 5 Meridian's - 2 Kinergetics - 1 Conrad Johnson - 1 Electrocompaniet - and finaly my Chord One - i am 100% PRO CD i could not live with the surface noise of vinyl some may be able to live with that BUT with my kind of SMOOTHHHHHHH music 95% instrumental jazz- newage - electronic - ambient - i simply could not stand the noise it had NOTHING to do with the quality of the sound.

BTW that Chord looks like a futuristic toaster or maybe a contact lens cleaning machine

but I am sure it sounds great

I'm not a digital afficionado, but I'm enjoying my new refurb Cambridge 740C CD player. Has 2 digital inputs for DAC duties outputting at 24/384kHz. Allows me to input digital signal from my DVD player so I can listen to my many music DVDs with the best sound quality my system can offer.

I'm sure there's way better units out there but at under $500, I'm pleased as punch. Prior players were very low end, so comparisons are futile.
