are those tesla rings on top of the tubes

Those are heat-dissipating top caps, machined from aluminum billet. They help to cool off the anode and grid connections - the failure points for these tubes are the seals around the grid and anode caps, so they must be kept cool (relatively speaking!) or the tube will implode.

another good reason for a Plexiglas shield. protects you from potential explosions. I don't think I would trust these to run without being in the room at the same time.

oh and keep the cat locked up.
Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and you'll have  to blow your nose.

This pretty much sums my feeling upon 1st sight.

Ron Simmons - DAMN vol.1

Very very nice job all around. I like what you did with the fan especially and how you kept it quiet. The face plate is pretty funny too.

Will each monoblock be plugged into its own dedicated power line?

I'm just curious how much electricity does each amp consume?

No, one dedicated line can handle both.

Each draws about 5A, 120V at idle.

Max,

I'd like to commission a portable pair for use with earbuds, please

Wow impressive stuff.

Now, how do we get to hear them?  Are they portable at all, such that they might make an appearance at a (yet unscheduled) GTG at my place in Hunterdon?

Very cool and impressive for sure.

Not very portable at approximately 170lbs each...one output transformer alone weighs 62 lbs! Add in four power transformers, 6 chokes, lots of big caps, etc. per monoblock and it gets a bit unwieldy.

When I complete the second one I'll throw a rave - it's only right down the road for you, in Branchburg.

Wow! Gorgeous!

I hope I'm back up north for that rave!
Mac Mini>Singxer SU-1>Lampizator Amber II>Rogue Cronus Magnum>Aural Acoustics Model B.
TWL PCs; Audio Envy ICs & SCs; Purist Digital IC; PI Audio USB Cable and Buss-Stop.
Sonos Connect, iFi SPDIF iPurifier, Schiit Modi Multibit, Audioengine 5+

The only thing that bothers me is that the two Hammond power transformers on top aren't quite up to the finish level of the other parts, so I'll be getting a cover made for them to match the output transformer and choke, eventually. But first, I need to build the other one!

System consists of an amp a preamp, 2 speakers a turntable and a phono preamp, Also some cables and power cords and a really cheap cd player.

Way cool.

Some guy out our way has these 100W Sets with tubes like giant phallic symols.

But compared to this they are wimps  :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Thanks

Haven't measured that, but the noise floor with zero signal is 0.19mV, not bad considering all the stuff in the box! Frequency response is 10Hz to the limit of my sound card at 1/2 power, lower in the bass at lower power.
