What a sleek looking preamp.



Some questions regarding the tubes for this P2688.

From reading the article I found this. "Up front is the full complement of tubes; two 101D directly heated triodes, Melody's own branded 274B rectifier tube, and two NOS Western Electric 403A input tubes."

Any idea as to why these tubes were chosen? Did Melody want to make a preamp without the more common preamp tubes used? Were these tubes selected because of the cost of this preamp? A lot of these tubes are ones I never heard of other than maybe the rectifier tube and seem quite exotic.

The WE tubes are used extensively in Melody product lines.

I believe they decided to use those after doing their research and found the outcome to be of their liking.

Furthermore, their bread and butter PB101 which is their 5th generation since their debut of P1688 about 15 years ago and was voted by 6Moons back then as one of the best is using 6SN7s and 5AR4 plus 101D.

Cool, you must be using the Chinese OCC copper hook-up wire inside the preamp... the best wire in the world!!!      Mr. Pu approved!
