Windows 7 update gone wrong

It was installed by Windows Update around 12/10 or so. In some rare cases it will screw up some drivers, and it can even disable Windows Updates for future updates. Yes, Microsoft did this to itself.   

I tried the autofix download.

It was only 26k. I ran it and it did nothing visible at all.  The errant update was still installed after I ran the fix. Maybe it neutralized it but there was no confirmation that it did anything.

So I just removed it manually:

Go to Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features | Installed Updates

Highlight the update labelled KB3004394, then press uninstall at the top of the page. Reboot and wait for long boot up to fix itself.

Yes, Microsoft did this to itself.   

You just can't make this stuff up.

I always wait a month or two before accepting any updates. I never make them automatic on my home computers. Microsoft often makes mistakes on first releases.

Well, I have those updates on both my laptop and desktop and haven't noticed any problems yet.
This is one of the reasons I am in the process of transitioning to an all Mac setup. I started as a purely pc guy and my wife has always been Mac. She's had far fewer headaches than I have and I can still recall way too many "blue screens of death".
