I won't be able to attend but I want to chime in to give my best to Chris.  I'm sorry about your wife's health issues; hopefully you'll get a miracle.  Barring that I wish you both the best with the time you have.

Thanks!  I've convinced myself that it's gonna be whatever it's gonna be and not worry about it.  Hopefully, see everyone by Thursday, after the dig-out!

See, Senore Emil, should have had the Rave to avoid the storm .

Seriously, as of 6 a.m., on radio and TV, the storm didn't seem to turn out as they forecast it to be.  6" in Central Park, NJ on I-287 west of here the highway was pretty much "black", with only small white strips on either side and the center.  Carle Place 5"?..... The storm shifted east, so Smithtown area is supposed to be harder-hit.  But.... we still have another half a day for mother nature to dump on us; more dumping is yet to come?  It may turn out that they (at least the weatherperson) jumped the gun a little again! :duh

Unfortunately, 1 youngster was killed snowboarding?  He hit a light pole. ](*,)

Yeap, the weatherman was wrong again.  Why?  The governor of NJ is reported to be mad at the botched forecast.

I awoke to not much snow at all. maybe 4 to 6 inches,my car had hardly any snow on it at all. Maybe the wind drove it off.
My son snow blowed our driveway and the sidewalks off in about 20 minutes!
I think a lot of places are preemptively closed for today.

Yep they got it wrong again.
Unfortunately snow storms are now political, so they will posture all the time that the world is ending, then do the backpedal we are seeing on the news right now, until the one day they get it right, then they will say " ah Ha" I was right, please vote for me again!
Its a crap shoot, with the scenarios already planned out no matter what happends.

Well, we know weather forecast is not an exact science.  Understandable.  Yeap, it's gotten political alright, esp. with your governor, the way he can get ticked off so easily .  Well, this is also a political statement?  Me no runnin for president tho. :duh

I guess it was our turn out here on Long Island. All summer we have those big rain storms where we get next to nothing while half of New Jersey is floating down a river and out to sea.I am looking at 18 - 24 inches now with talk of up to another foot on the way by days end. One of the problems with weather forecasting in this area is because of our proximity to the ocean coast conditions can be dramatically different a) form area to area and B) if the track of a storm changes. In a land locked area if a storm changes track by 20 or 30 miles it doesn't change the outcome much, but a 20 -30 mile change along the coast can make the difference between a storm losing steam over land or picking up moisture and intensity over the sea. Also the TV reports out of NYC cover such a wide range of area that what is bad in one section of the coverage area may not hit another at all. Such was the case today. While Mike got next to nothing in NJ, Long Island got hammered, with a big difference between eastern and western LI.

As for me, I have three fireplaces in the new house, a 9 kW generator in the garage, just in case, and yesterday I loaded up on all the essential (like a case of our favorite wine, Be Prepared ), so I am ready to ride it out in style.  :D
