Isn't that going to result in a syrupy sound?

(sorry, I couldn't resist)

    Good one Bob.

Dave Elledge of PI Audio has assured me his UltraBuss can handle cleaning up the sticky syrup leaving only a sweet maple sound. Hey, it's a Vermont thing.

Looks like I found just what I was looking for here, Natural Glacier Crystal, refreshing blue Himalayan salt lamp. I bought 2 lamps and will be placing them on top of my main Lorelei loudspeakers which are next to all my electronics. Let them negative ions interact with my electronics positive ions.

Thanks Charles & Tom for this enticing tweak! :thumb:

Cheers,
Robin

So how long does it take before the air is ionized?

Hard to say with lamps. I noticed a difference after one day being on 24/7. A commercial Ion generator works almost immediately. The lamps offer a low output.

I'm not sure if is the output of the lamps as opposed to how the work. The salt crystal gives off ions when it heats up. I think you don't hear much of a difference before it has been on for a day simply because it takes quite a while for that little night light bulb to raise the temp of that big rock.

Aha! I do have one. It isn't a rock but an ionize air filter, it oscilates too.
Got it going by my gear. I should have this anyways for dust filtering around my system. I like it so far for dusting i hope it makes a diff sonically. Good call on this one for preventative maintanance alone.

Tom I use a 14W bulb not the 4W night lite ones. Heats up pretty good.
Werd you should hear a more open sound and better defined imaging.

Even with a 14w bulb it will take a good amount of time to change the temp of the crystal through and through.

I think it takes about a decade,,,, maybe 2.   These blue glacier salt lamps use a blue colored bulb. Unlike Charles lamps, it take a special type salt rock lacking in minerals that will allow colored bulbs to shine through it. Even then, these lamps use a 25 watt bulb, both for the light to shine through and to give off enough heat for the essential oil diffuser.

Science says these salt lamps won't ionize crap. But owners feel otherwise. I think that in itself qualifies salt lamps as a bonafide audiophile tweak.  =3o

Evan, while that device might be similar to the RR-77, it is nothing like the RR-777 which is said to be 4 times stronger than it's predecessor. And the RR-888 is said to be a step above that Evan.

The $165 one is equal to the first offering by AR. Since as Arafat has stated is 100% correct. The originals are affective. We found two worked wonders. One placed by components , one at rear of room.
I think our resident professor Richidoo needs to build one on the cheap. Go get em Richidoo.

No new age technology for me, been there done that.

My favorite tweak is a good night sleep and a belly full of vegetables. Mind is the most important component in any audio system, but also the least understood and most neglected.
