Cecil Taylor, the attention-hogging musical retard ruins everything except Kenny Dorham's solos. The weak rhythm section can't isolate Taylor to his own sick mind and they allow the beat to be lost many times, especially on Trane's solos. Trane relies heavily on rhythmic support from his bands and succeds best with Philly Joe, Blakey or Elvin. When Trane phases out rhythmically to an etheric haze this band falls apart. KD is like a rhythmic and melodic pile driver saying "oh no, you will not fuck up my solo Cecil." The horn solos are harmonically crippled because they are fighting to stay afloat against the barage of noise attacking them and cutting across the grain of the spirit stream so they can't take chances and innovate. It's definitely a historically interesting recording. An excellent record for Cecil Taylor fans because he is forced to play jazz standards, but can't. Louis Hayes even fucks up his own solo, dropping a beat with nobody else playing. Definitely the worst KD record and the worst Trane album ever. But maybe the best Cecil Taylor record ever by virtue of his bandmates.

Rich, I thought your interest in hifi would predate that because of the audio knowledge you show on the forum.

Also featured on the album are several special guests including, Tommy Shaw (Styx) on vocals, Brent Fitz (Slash, Gene Simmons) percussion, Jim Kale (Guess Who founding member) and Michael Devin (Whitesnake) on bass guitar."

I learned a lot from doing DIY projects since 2009. I learned how to listen to sound while producing records in the 80s, but I wasn't really aware of playback refinement until local audiophiles corrupted me in 2006.  :duh

Good to hear from you Rich.

With all the rain you guys are getting from Florence I was nervous that you might be floating down the block.

Hey Tom! Luckily Raleigh was largely spared. Wind was <30 and only 5" rain so far. I think the other audiophiles down Charlotte way are also OK so far. Don't know about Carl's beachhouse yet. But it's still raining here and the rivers will rise for another week. Some rivers are predicted to be >25 feet over normal. Flooding will be a problem for a few weeks, with even more rain than Floyd.

Glad to hear it. I saw a weather report Wed night that was predicting 12 - 18" of rain in the Raleigh-Durham area. I would think I could be a while before Carl can even get to the area where is beach house is to check it out.

My brother in law has (or maybe had) a house on the outer Banks. I have not heard any reports of what kind of damage that area took, but I am sure it is substantial. One of the weather reports described Florence as having the potential to permanently change the coastlines of NC & SC

Carl's OK.

Haven't heard much about Outer Banks, but I hope your inlaws are OK. At least they weren't close to the eye.

This is my 11111th post...     haha

Glad to hear that Carl is OK.

My brother in law's place  on the outer banks is a vacation home. None of  his family was down there when the storm hit , so they are all OK. I'm not sure I can say the same for the house.
