My brother in law's place  on the outer banks is a vacation home. None of  his family was down there when the storm hit , so they are all OK. I'm not sure I can say the same for the house.

I bet it's OK. Wind was not strong there and they're ready for floods.

So for the guys who listen to classical, can you make any recommendation for a newbie to classical music.

Here's some of my favorites over the years, (mostly) all easy to swallow, with a couple a little spicier. :)

"Appalachian Spring" Aaron Copeland, Bernstein/NYPhil

"The Planets" Gustav Holst, Bernstein/NYPhil or Levine/Chicago

"Keyboard Concerto D Minor" J. S. Bach, Glenn Gould, Bernstein/NYP

"Goldberg Variations" Bach, Glenn Gould 1981 version

"The New World" Symphony 9, Dvorak, Bernstein/NYPhil

Violin Sonatas and Fugues, J.S. Bach, Julia Fischer (Pentatone)

Romeo and Juliet, Prokofiev, San Francisco Orchestra

Symphony 1 and 5, Prokofiev, Levi/Atlanta, (Telarc)

Beethoven, Moonlight Serenade, Alfred Brendel
Beethoven Symphonies 3, 5, 7, 9   Vanska/Minnesota
Beethoven Violin Concerto, Anne Sophie Mutter
Beethoven String Quartets 15 and 16, Prazak Quartet

Neo Camerata, Travels

Gustav Holst, Suites for Band, 1 and 2, Frederick Frennell, Cleveland Symphonic Winds

Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, W. Mozart, Manze/The English Concert

Monumental Works for Winds, US Marine Band (Naxos)

Beethoven 5th / Schubert Unfinished Symphony  Munch/Boston   (JVC)

Frederick Chopin by Artur Rubenstein, The Chopin Collection (RCA Victor set)

Ancient Airs and Dances/ The Birds/ 3 Botticelli Pictures, Respighi, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra  (DG)

I'm more into the earlier stuff:
Vivaldi- Four Seasons (performed on period instruments)
Handle- Water Music and Royal Fireworks
Bach- Pretty much anything
Haydn- Symphonies 26, 28, 49 and 6
Beethoven- Like all 9 but 6 is one of the favorites.
Mozart- Pretty much all but Jupiter stands out.

Note: My wife (when she could see) played both piano and harpsichord. She flips out whenever
she hears a harpsichord piece done on piano (Gould is known for that).

One of Horace Silver's top 5 albums.

The CD/stream has 2 more tracks than the LP and they are NOT throwaway takes.

Horace Silver's 1st and best album ever... even though it's Art Blakey's first band, Horace was still co-leader, and wrote and arranged all the tunes.

Featuring Kenny Dorham's best work on record, this is one of the most important jazz albums, occupying that fleeting and narrow space between bop and post-bop.

RVG's masterpiece as well, the 96k mono remaster sounds great on Tidal Masters!

A new string quartet album from Reference Recordings. SQ is awesome! Music is interesting, eclectic, modern but easily assimilable.

This one's a little more meaty. Prazak is a bold and ballsy Czech string quartet. Smetana is a bold and ballsy Czech composer, makes a  good combination!
