KUVO's archive show On Stage, revisits its tribute to Denver-based
pianist Joe Bonner, produced in 2018 for the 70th anniversary of his
birth. (He was born April 20, 1948.)

Force of nature has become almost a clichéd reference to an intense,
artistic personality, but there are few better analogies to pianist Joe
Bonner. He brought a solid groove to any standard he approached, before
unleashing a torrent of notes that never put one-off, but only drew the
listener in. His original compositions were at times lavish, at times
pristine. But he never ever bored his audience.

Because he lived in Denver, and because KUVO offered him the space and
airtime to share his gift, we have several recordings of his live
broadcast performances. In 1999, his quartet included Jesse Lee Montijo
on alto saxophone, Dirk Dickson on bass, and Charles Ayash on drums.
Tongue-in-cheek, he brought The Bonner Party to KUVO in October 2004
(Ayash at the kit, Mark Diamond on bass, and Prasanna Bishop on alto and
baritone saxes). In a session that aired in January 2014, Bonner played
mostly originals with a group he called Joe Bonner & Current Events
(Vince Wiggins on flute, Chris Strain on tenor sax, Dave Weinand on
bass, and Joe DiAmo on drums). We've even got a solo piano session with
Bonner from 2004.

Joe Bonner departed the physical plane in 2014, but his music lives on
through these KUVO archives.

We hope you'll tune in and celebrate these sessions on Saturday,
November 13, at 10 pm, and Monday, November 15, at 7 pm. On Stage, is a
KUVO exclusive produced and hosted by Susan Gatschet.

C.S.N.Y. - Back At The Gund
2/25/02- Cleveland,Ohio,Gund Arena
# CSP11/12/13

From what I was told at the time this will was the first source to come out in it's complete form. The source itself was taped from the 4th row center section(dead center) and comes directly from my master DAT tapes. I was using my D7 recorder which had loading issues but fortunately it worked OK for the show. Consequently,I retired the unit after taping a Neil Young show in '04 due to the common issues they had.
Like my first release, you get a live feel to this one.The sound is upfront along with the crowd but fortunately it's not too disturbing to the music. No mastering went into this, just simple fades for CD splits. It's pretty much good as is so I just left it alone. So I'll let you guys be the judge on this.
Since the show, the recording sat untouched nearly a year.I never gave it much thought and had only burned it for my friend who went with me.I didn't plan to trade it since I figured that there would be other sources nor did I have alot of time for trading at that point. However, after meeting another taper that went to this show.He did inspire me to put this out.So as a result,I put some quick artwork together just to put a label on it and it was all set.It was traded briefly I think until now which is the first time I have shared it on the torrents.
Although I did not catch the first visit,I believe this was the second time for these guys to be at the Gund Arena.Hence the name,"Back At The Gund".Anyway,I hope you enjoy the show.I sure did but I still don't know if it was worth $226 for one damn ticket.

My comments:

High-energy, entertaining show from (I assume) a festival in upstate New York.  Even though it's a pretty short set, it's a very entertaining listen; Danko and Helm sound great on this recording.  The cover of Springsteen's "Atlantic City" make this one a keeper, although it's enjoyable all the way through.

The recording is a low-generation soundboard and the fidelity is very good.  I didn't have to do anything with this recording to improve upon the sound.  If you are even a casual fan of Danko/The Band, this one is well worth the minimal bandwidth.
