Our 19 year old daughter has a 19 year old friend who has been staying with us a couple nights the past few weeks. She likes much of the adult/college radio alternative music I enjoy: Fiona Apple, the XX, Freelance Whales, Feist, Grace Potter, Peter Gabriel...I've been sharing music and opening her eyes.

Last night she said, "I like jazz...I think"

So I started easy, Pat Metheny's American Garage and Still Life Talking, then some Bruford's Earthworks, Grover Washington Then and Now, Miles Davis Kind of Blue, Coltrane Giant Steps, and finally several cuts from Monk. Heady stuff for a college freshman.

"Now I KNOW I like jazz." she said.  "Can we do this again next week?"
