Nice Karrin Allyson, singing Brazilian music in Portuguese, and some Latin jazz standards in English. Sweet voice, tight guitar quartet backing her, and excellent sound.

Verve deep groove mono pressing.  Red Allen is joined by Kid Ory and Jack Teagarden for some outstanding New Orleans jazz at the 1957 Newport Jazz festival.  Fabulous stuff.

Decca mono pressing.  Al Hibbler was a featured vocalist with the Duke Ellington Orchestra for 8 years in the 1940s and then moved on to a solo career.  He crossed over from jazz to become a singer of popular standards in much the same way that Frank Sinatra embarked on his solo career after a time in the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.  Hibbler has a great voice but enjoyed nowhere near the success that Sinatra did with Capitol Records in the 1950s.  Still, Al Hibbler was an excellent vocalist and I would recommend him to anyone who likes Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett.  The only thing holding this album back are the arrangements, which are a little syrupy for my tastes.  Not quite up to the standards that Nelson Riddle set with Sinatra, but then again who else is?

ECM stereo LP.  This album was something of a disappointment for me.  I love Ralph Towner but on this LP his playing is little more than support for Gary Burton on the vibes.  Burton's playing is fine as far as it goes, but it isn't my cup of tea.  If you are looking for recordings where Towner's guitar playing is front and center...this ain't it.
