The greatest jazz musician of all time on his best recorded live gig. Age 32 during his clean period, 3 years before his death. He was very happy at this time, career was flourishing, money, critical acclaim, money, happy home life, and it shows on record. Possibly the best recordings of Bird. Better than the Savoy and Dial studio sessions which are considered the meat of the Bird canon.

Now out of print, used copies usually priced ~$100, finally found a copy  for $40!

A little disappointed with this one. It was on my wish list for a long time from hearing it on the radio and Pandora, so I finally bought it. There are some great moments on it, like the title track is very nice, and there's some great Chet Baker lines throughout. He stands head and shoulders above the rest of the band musically, imo.

New York Polyphony, male choir group. Singing the usual 16th century latin church music repertoire. I think the recordist is John Atkinson, editor of Stereophile magazine. It's a nice record. Good reviews.

One of the best big bands ever assembled, playing at their peak.

The late Raleigh native Pee Wee Moore is featured as baritone sax soloist on a couple tunes and is the subject of Dizzy joking that he is the "star of the band."
