I heard an interview on the radio with him and he said he liked his new voice, and he credits smoking. Your post reminded me of this, and sure enough, it comes up in many interviews. Tom Waits must have started in the womb...

Janis Ian: Strickly Solo

Meredith and I saw Janis Ian perform with Tom Paxton on his 80th Birthday tour in 2017. At the end of the show she announced that copies of her latest CD would be for sale in the lobby . We had seats in about the 5th row, so by the time we git to the lobby there was a big crowd at the table buying CDs. I decided to bypass the crowd and figured I could just the CD online when we got home. Unfortunately when I tried to buy one I found out that the CD was a limited edition that was only being sold at live shows.

It has taken my 5 years, but I finally tracked down a copy online and it was delivered today. Very nicely done album. I'm glad I finally found one.

Of course when I loaded it on my hard drive and into Roon I found out that it was available on Qobuz and Tidal. I never thought to look there thinking that if it was not on sale via normal retail channels it would not have been released to streaming either. Oh well, you live and learn.

Sha Na Na: The Golden Age of Rock and Roll

I tripped over this album while wandering around Qobuz. These guys were the band at the annual 50s sock hop dance my sophomore year of high school. They always put on a great show and were in a way the Jimmy Buffett of Doo Wop as their shows always had an energy to them that made them fun in a way beyond just the music.

The first 1/4 of the album is studio recordings that are just OK but the rest really capture the groups crowd pleasing live act.

This album brought back a lot of memories for me.

'The Jazz Groove', an internet station I guess. It was recommended by another AN member, and provided they're not fundraising, it's great. SQ is excellent, and yes I did send in a contribution. Little to no vocal jazz; ideal for reading. 'Burden of Proof' right now by Scott Turow...

Meredith and I saw John Williams and Anne Sophie Mutter do this same program with the Boston Pops at Tanglewood the summer before Covid hit. (That was what, about 6 years ago? :roll) The next afternoon we went back and saw the Boston Symphony do Beethoven's Ninth. That was a great musical weekend.

You played the Capriccio without flipping it over to listen to the 1812?????

My Soundsmith tracks through those canons without even flinching. Now the Benz Micro that it replaced (which listed for 25% more $) jumped out of the grooves like an F-14 being launched off a carrier deck.
