Columbia used the same fake stereo on some records too. Like Miles Davis "Milestones". New CDs of that recording have a much more tasteful fake stereo than my 70s LP with left right EQ and about .1 sec of delay.

I love that old 40s music. I have Glenn Miller, Stan Kenton and Anita O'Day stations on my Pandora.   :thumb:

I like the retro weekend! I'll dig some out

When I was in college I worked in a radio station that feature a big  band show hosted by a fellow named Bob Logan who played with a number of the big bands in the 40s. I also hung out at a local bar that was owned by a guys who spent time traveling with the Glenn Miller band. Spent a lot of hours not only listening to big band music, but also discussing it with folks that actually lived it. Fascinating stories.

One in particular that I loved was about a club in NYC that had two ballrooms but only enough money to play one band . So they miked each musician and fed the signal to a dedicated amp that drove a speaker that was placed on a chair in the other ballroom in the exact same spot that the musician would have been sitting had there been a real band in the room. So each musical instrument was reproduced by its own mic, amp and speaker. How's that for multi-channel audio?

OK, better late than never. Here are my offerings for Retro Weekend

Fiddler on the Roof: Original Broadway Cast

I saw this on Broadway when I was about 8 years old with Hershel Benardi as Tevye (OK who remembers the TV sitcom "Arnie"?) I heard this 100s ,of times on my parent's system as I was growing up and as I was listening to it last night I realized for the first time that Bea Arthur played Yenta in the original cast. Kind of ironic, Maude - Yenta, not too far apart are they?

The Who: Who are you

Tchaikovsky - Symphony No. 5: Zubin Mehta conducting the LA Philharmonic

[Sorry guys, I couldn't find a picture for this one.]

Yes, it did - so well in fact, we had to follow it up with this and make it an all-Tubes morning.

Rich,

If you like 40's music check this one out:

Guy Marks: Loving you has made me Bananas

This album is a parody of the kind of vocals you used to hear on 1940s type variety shows.

It is kind of  Dr. Demento meets Tommy Dorsey. A fun listen.
