[size=8pt   CBS Half Speed Mastered LP[/size]

I have never understood why these CBS Half Speed LP command the prices they do on the used market. They are not bad pressing and inmost cases better sounding that their stock counterparts, but given the other companies that were doing audiophile LPs at the time (MFSL, Nautilus, Direct Disc Labs etc.), they are certainly not at the top of the SQ pile. It must just be the artist lineup that they have.

Like they say with cable TV, "Content is King".

That said this is a fun 80s rock album with decent SQ (I also have the 1/2 Speed version.)

I have nothing against the Columbia Half Speed series as records, I am just puzzled as to why they have been given such a "collectable" status.

I bought 5 LPs total at an average of $11.00 a piece
2-MFSL 2-CBS Half Speed 1- Nautilus

Was this from your trip to PREX? Next week is my son's birthday and we are planning to do a little father/son roadtrip there to celebrate.

Tmazz here's the scoop  :D
I bought these from Paul (orthobiz) from Audio Circle. He purchased 29 audiophile records privately.
He offered 6 LPs and I took 5 not wanting the Chuck Mangione LP
$9.00 each plus $10.00 Priority shipping..................Bill

Great deal!

I didn't think PREX would let things like this go for $11.(Although one can always hope :) )

They usually get a good buck for anything that is collectible. I usually skim through the bins and spend most of my time sitting on the floor going through the $2 bins where I find a lot of great music a lot of which is the "wrong pressing" to be collectible, but is still great music and since I buy to listen to, not to look at many times that is just fine with me.

While PREX is a great shop it is definitely a place you go to for their selection, not their prices.

BTW - PREX is my second favorite record store. The most amazing one I have ever been to is Amoeba Records in SF. It fills the entire building of a former bowling alley!   I got there at about 7:30 PM stayed until closing at 10 and I don't think I got through a quater of the store.  :duh  And they have a location in Hollywood that is even bigger than that.

If you ever make it to the west coast stopping in at one of their stores is a must.  :thumb:

"Twist and Shout" in Denver is very cool.  You can listen to, not just sample, anything you'd like to hear.  And the staff is just as excited about your music ans you are. No "Championship Vinyl" attitudes.
