The Royal Scam
Steely Dan - vinyl

This a 2nd copy I bought as the deadwax contains the initials of Allen Zentz, 'AZ' - with a tiny flower. This is on the orig. yellow concentric ABC label. It has great bass and SQ all through the range.

That's not the Lake of E, L and P fame, is it?

Indeed it is.  The one and the same.

"Court" is much more accessible than "Starless."  You'll probably like the other early Crimson: In the Wake of Poseidon, Lizard, and Islands. My fave from the "Starless" period is "Red."

Larks Tongue...

Well you are certainly not taking the easy road to Crimson fandom.  Brilliant, but difficult.

Incidentally, King Crimson albums are not one-listen-and-you're-sold records.  They require the listener to work to appreciate the nuances and subtlety (or lack thereof in Lark's Tongue's case).

Example:  I LOVE "Discipline," but it took me a couple years before I fully apprecited it.

Well, heard Lark's Tongue last night for 1st time and loved it.

It's the 1st album I posted I have to go back to and relisten to, but after the othe KC albums I just acquired.

Liking it!

Freaken RAIN drops. Joey Defrancesco Live at the Five Spot, then Sonny Rollins Plus Three, It is Jazz day . The Blues would be too simple on this rainy day.

Larks Tongue and Lizard are definitely the older and more spacy side of KC. If you want to go a little harder then I would suggest the following, in the following order:

- Red
- Starless and Bible Black
- The Power to Believe

If you like the spacy side, then the next follow-ups should be:

- In the Court of the Crimson King
- Islands
Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and you'll have  to blow your nose.

Thanks Bob, read further back and it was my purchas of In the Court............  and Starless...... that led AZ to make suggestions about others.

I loved Court, jury out on Starless.

Both of you guys put a star on Lizard, have to check if Bill brought me that one next.

EDIT: GEEZUSHKRIST! Just listened to Lizard, such a noob at KC. Let's see what else Santa Pumpkin brought.
