Pulled out my Mercury Living Presence box set to listen to Janos Starker and the Dvorak Cello Concerto and Henryk Szeryng and the Brahms Violin Concerto.   I've always thought Mercury lp's were like listening in an excellent hall on the 25th row, while RCA's were like being on the 8th row with a more dynamic sound.

Usually big band just doesn't grab me... not so Ellington.  It's always interesting with lots going on under the surface.  Typical Ellington performance... until Paul Gonsalves went off on what may be the greatest jazz solo ever recorded.

These are Viennese waltzes with a Hawaiian flavor. Can't say that I've ever heard Viennese waltzes played this way....and I think that's a good thing
