Pulled out a copy of Tchaikovsky's 4th Sym on an old D.G.  red box, tulips pressing from 1960.  I'd forgotten how full the orchestra is in this recording... truly a great one.  So I decided to write a blurb recommending it.. went to Discogs to see what an early pressing would set someone back   .  Let's just say that a good one was stupid $$$.  However, if you find a copy at the local record store like I did, pick it up for two bucks.

DG   SLPM 138 657  By Mravinsky and the Leningrad Philharmonic recorded in Wembly Hall in England by Deutsche G.  This was one of the early "goodwill tours" sponsored by Kruschev to win favor with the West.  What is it about those English churches that make such spacious recordings?

Just hit the street this week, this never-before-released studio album by Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers was recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's Hackensack, New Jersey studio on March 8, 1959. It features the legendary drummer-whose centennial is being celebrated this year-along with trumpeter Lee Morgan, tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley, pianist Bobby Timmons, and bassist Jymie Merritt. The 6-song set includes 2 previously unissued compositions: "Quick Trick" and "Jimerick."

Roon popped this up as a listening suggestion at the end of the Blakey album. I looked around and have found is as a streaming selection on Tidal, Amazon and Spotify, but cannot find any references to it on physical media, so perhaps it is an electronic only release.

No matter I am really enjoying it either way.
