HAL at CAF2024 in Rockville MD
« on: July 20, 2024, 12:52:14 PM »
HAL and Danville Signal will be in room 702 for CAF2024 from 8-10 November.

The heart of the system will be the full production dspNexus 2x8 with the ADSP21569 DSP and AKM AK4499EX DAC upgrade.

Will post pictures of the system as time gets closer, but there will be an AB comparison of passive vs DSP crossovers.

Hope to see people in our room to say hello and give a listen.   :D

CAF2024 starts one month from today.

Hope to see folks there to hear the speaker AB demo for the differences between passive and dspNexus 2/8 DSP crossovers.

There will be two setups, the M1 speakers and planar speakers for the AB demo.

Dave,
Understand.

Miss those days at RMAF seeing everyone and hanging out.

One thing that is good about the CAF hotel is that it is on a Metro route, so easy to get to/from Reagan National airport.  Walk off Metro and into the hotel door.

Yeah, we had quite a crew and did well at every show.  8)

Nick,
Thanks!

Yes, being careful.   Went through knee and back PT this year, so going slow.

CAF2024 day#3 packup for room 702 is completed.  Now ready to load the truck for transport to the show hotel.

Everything will be powered from Dave's BlunderBUSS with 24 outlets.  Makes it easy to do whatever is needed!

Even have a vintage LINN Sondek with Iitok arm given to me by a friends father before he passed.  First highend turntable and system I ever heard playing Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon LP.   Some nostalgia for the show.

CAF2024 is completed and the truck is loaded to go home.

Hope folks for the demos thought provoking as to what modern DSP control center with SOTA DAC's can offer for an audio system.

Rich,

Were you able to get good enough acoustics in your room for the DSP to stand out as you expected? Are there some limitations as to what the DSP can't satisfactorily correct?

Nick,
I brought two diffusor walls, bass traps and side wall reflection 5ft absorber panels and installed in the room.  Worked very well.

There were no limitations doing correction in the hotel size bedroom.  Had response to 30Hz with the LRS when the OB subs were added.  This is a music system not a HT setup, so articulate clean bass was heard.

This was a prototype idea of a non-servo OB modular sub that uses DSP response correction.  It worked well to me.  Did this to demo for one of my customers that was interested in the idea.  He could not come, but his daughter came and videoed the demo and could give him feedback on what she heard.  She was very happy with the sound quality.  This was with what I would call an entry level LRS system with a 1x12 with the standard DAC's not his 3.7's, but the sound change easily came through.
