Evan,

As I recall, those units have the power cord connected in the front. A weird layout as tonthe connections, so a no for me. I contacted Mike Sanders about upgrading some of his older amps, but he said they wouldn't be comparable as to his more recent offerings, so it's not an option for me.

And... KT88 have big balls!

Haven't heard a KT 88 in person at any of the old Vegas audio club guys. Am quite the tube novice....

Thanks Evan. Looks like a nice build and with better transformers etc. I found a review that Danny did on the Miller version that Brian brought over to Danny about a year ago. The only criticism was a bit less resolution on the top end. Once the terminal strips were replaced with Danny's speaker connectors, the amp achieved outstanding performance. Danny is a straight shooter so this is a good review for me to keep in mind.

Nick,

Have you considered replacing the Hattor pre with a tube pre instead of replacing your SS amp with a tubed amp?

Well, if you are interested in the ST-70 style amp, I own the K&K variation described here...
https://www.dagogo.com/the-kk-audio-st70-boards-part-1-of-3/

This amp came to me a few years back when I did some repairs for a guy, and took the amp as payment.
At the time, Dave recommended K&K boards, and the iron is much higher end than the original Dynaco.
The problem is, I don't need it.  It's on my desk behind my computer as I type. If you are really serious about a Dynaco type amp, this might be what you are looking for.

Hi Michael,

I really haven't considered it lately. I had the 2 chassis Supratek tube preamp and really liked it. But it had a cheap Alps pot and I think it limited the performance. It also didn't resolve as well as the Hattor. The Hattor Big is a great bang for the buck product. It has dual mono attenuators with a digital readout. They track perfectly in unison. It has the AMRG resistors and NewClass D opamp. Its a great preamp.

Scott,

Thats a very interesting option. I have heard of K and K and don't recall ever reading any negative comments about Kevin. Those look like KT 120 tubes. What other tubes can be used? KT 77s...EL 34s? Those transformers are all upgraded? Looks like all the connections are in the back and I'm assuming it has an IEC. If you can post a pic of the back, that would be great. Let me know here or via PM what you want for it. The only question is how close can it come to a maxxed out Miller version.

Ah... a bidding war!

The Lundahl transformers are a step up from the A470 Dyna tx.  The K&K amps are pretty much SOTA for that common platform.  The KT120 tubes are run in triode mode and are incredibly musical.

The amp can run 6L6, KT66, EL34, KT77, KT88, 6550, KT90 and KT120.  Pick yer' poison.

Thank for the details.  I really wouldn't have known what other  tubes would work, having  only used  the ones  that  came with  it.

This is not my amp, but it's the same build... but the binding post have been changed. When I got the amp, the previous owner (the one  mentioned in the  article) had broken a post and I replaced it.  So they are now basic brass post with plastic nuts.   And yes, it has an IEC
