Watched his talk on YouTube about his new design ahead of Axpona.

Can anyone explain (in layman's terms) what makes field coil drivers sound differently? :?:

More about this here: https://jonesandcerreta.com/technology/

Thanks, Paul. That was a very interesting interview. I've known about Andrew Jones for a number of years. This certainly seems interesting because since he has his own company, he might not be as constrained with materials or limiting the price of his products. Will be very interesting as to the suggested retail on the speakers.

I believe the only guy that I know who's ever owned field coil speakers was a guy named Gary who briefly posted here seven or eight years ago. I don't think I've ever heard any speakers using field coils.

I watched the first couple of videos about these new speakers. I know they're trying to build interest and enthusiasm for them, but it sure would be nice to know at what price they're going to debut. I'm betting it'll be in excess of $20k.

Anyone care to guess?

I am not aware of all the designs that Jones has done over the years and what his most expensive model was. 20k seems high, but it's a nice cabinet and the field coil stuff might be pricey. But I'll guess $17,500

Hope all is well overseas

When he was designing speakers for TAD there were models well over $100k.  I expect this new speaker to be well over $20,000.

Thanks, Jack. Looks like you and Michael have a better idea on the pricing. Hope it works out for him and his partner. Some guys are great designers. But not everyone is cut out to run a business = Bob Smith

The price on the pair shown at Axpona today was said to have a starting price of $33,900 so a good bit lower than I expected,

Wow. Ok, I wish them well with their business. I am curious what is special about a field coil unit. How is the sound or presentation different?

The first time I heard field coil speakers was at the Taipei Audio Show about 5 years ago. I was actually passing by the room where they were playing because I was tired and had already listened to 30 pairs of speakers...yet I stopped in my tracks because I could clearly hear Eva Cassidy singing in the room. I didn't hear a recording; I heard her singing in the room.

I ended up staying in that room for ~20 minutes listening to different songs and chatting with the distributor/salesman.

The speakers are manufactured in France (forgot the brand) and are not cheap.

Interestingly, I heard the same pair again last year in his showroom in Taipei, and my reaction was "Meh". Go figure.
