Dudley Moore: Songs Without Words



Yes, that Dudley Moore. It seems in addition to being a talented comedian, the man who brought us "Arthur" was also a quite accomplished pianist and composer.

His other albums are pretty much strait up jazz, but this one os more like light classical.

I finally found something that is not on Pandora. I tried to make a Dudley Moore station and it tolds me no can do. So they have almost everything. Close, but not quite.

That's funny.  I wonder what their music procurement policy is? How do they decide what new music to buy.

Do they actually buy the music upfront before they pass it out or do they have some kind of demand based payment system that pays royalites depending on how much a particular song gets played? (which is not unlike how regular commercial radio stations pay for music. I can remember many an hour spent filling out the Arbitron Spring book.

Based on the tendency to repeat the same songs over and over on a given station it seems like they have a finite selection of music available.

Don't know how or if they pay royalties on the plays. Considering how militant RIAA and publishing companies ASCAP and BMI are about collecting them I can't imagine the play is free, although non profit radio stations are often free or greatly reduced rates. Using Sonos I don't pay for Pandora at all, and don't look at the webpage ads either. But I guess someone does.
