Edgar Winter : Jazzin' the Blues

Qobuz Streaming

Very strange, Edgar Winter music done with jazz arrangements. Particularly weird were the smooth jazz version of Free Ride and the swing version of Frankenstein. At least I didn't have to pay any money to find out.

David Oistrakh and Sviatoslav Richter in Recital  on Quintessence PMC-7133

Franck Violin Sonata in A
Brahms Vionin Sonata No.3 in D Min

This is a repress of a 1968 Melodiya recording.  Being a HUGE fan of Sviatoslav Richter, I usually pick up any vinyl of his, and the performance doesn't disappoint- especially the Franck sonata.  As was not unusual of Melodya, the recording could be construed as lacking sparkle, but the two giants of piano and violin play off each other well.
Pick up a cheap copy.

#12488
Thelonious Monk  "Criss-Cross"  1963 Columbia CL 2038  Mono 2 Eye label (which is the first pressing)

Forgot I had this rather beat up copy, so I pulled it out to listen to the music through the noise and scratches.    Wow, I love T. Monk.  His style is musical, discordant, unique, and entirely wonderful.  Played on a mono cartridge, it's great music on a vg copy.  I'll probably let it go.  Anyone want a playable, decent copy for $10?  I don't need multiples.

I have a copy of that with a "Best Wishes,  D.E." signature on it- picked it up 15 years ago or so.   I've done what research the internet offers, and it looks like the Duke's initials.
And it's a nice LP.

I've got a friend that owns a record store.  Usually he never even looks at marks on the covers other than to see what condition it's in.  Once, I pointed out to him that he had a signed Arthur Rubinstein lp (great 20th century classical pianist).  He simply said, "Your find, your gain" and sold it for two bucks.

Just in!! My vinyl copy of Jennifer Warnes'  "The Hunter".
I've loved this LP since I first hear it a dozen years ago at Danny Richie's place.
