Yeah, there's only one Beethoven Violin Concerto. I'm sure she has recorded it elsewhere  but this is the famous 1979 version with Karajan. Love it!  The Triple Concerto on there is the one I always rave about, with Yoyoma and Karajan. They were just kids back then.

I hunted around for single CD versions of these pieces, since I only ever heard triple as part of a 20 disc DG Beethoven box, and the Violin conc. as part of a 2CD Best of Mutter collection. Great to find them both on one disc! Listening just to these pieces made me fall in love with her.

I like to give away music to people, I will put this on my list of goodie handouts.

Since the wife pissed me off with yet another requirement for a new vehicile I'm playing some KMFDM.

I was so hoping for a new Nissan Pathfinder or Mazda CX9 but will now probably be saddled with a minivan.

Mannheim Steamroller: Music of the Spheres

American Gramophone CD

Mostly retread stuff from Fresh Aire 5, 7 & 8 (overlaid with some NASA sound effects). Unless you are a diehard Steamroller fan looking to complete a collection you might want to pass this one by.

I saw a Newcastle ad on TV, the polka tune caught my ear. The trumpet melody has some tasty harmonic overtones. The major 7th, 9th and the sharp 11 on top of the basic oompa loompa major chord are pretty hip melodic tensions, a la Charlie Parker, Prokofiev, Benny Golson.

The tune is "The Gonk," by Herbert Chappell, from the movie Dawn of the Dead. I've never seen it.

Allman Brothers at Nassau Coliseum 1973

- I had just graduated grammer school when Brother and Sisters came out. This is from the tour of that album, with Dickie but no Duane. Chuck Lavell on piano fills in quite a bit for the extra missing guitar, but still, it's no Fillmore East. Still, quite cool to hear a live show from my neighborhood.

Anyone ever heard this one? ;)
Rich, if you like this album you HAVE to hear the 45 RPM version that was released about a year or so ago.

Tchaikovsky: Waltzes/ Ormandy, Philadelphia Orchestra

A clean RCA Red Seal disk. Heard an audiophile version of The Nutcracker at TMAZZ's on his reference system - it was impressive!
